The procedure for both drawing and painting is fairly similar. If you
have any specific questions please feel free to contact me.
Working from life
Together the sitter and I work to complete the portrait in
one session. A session is broken down into 20 minute segments where
the sitter poses for twenty minutes then takes a break for five minutes.
A pencil sketch is approx. 20 - 30 minutes. A Charcoal is approx. 2
- 3 hours. An oil sketch is approx.6 hours.
Working from photos
This procedure can be done in either of two ways. The first option is
where I take photos of the sitter and together we choose which photo
will make the best portrait.
The second option is where the client has a photo already.
Materials
For the painted sketches I usually prefer to work on a wooden panel because
it is more sturdy and less susceptible to damage. However, many people
like the look of canvas so that's also an option.
All the drawings are done on 100% rag, acid free paper. The choice of
drawing material is up to the client. Many people like the charcoals.
There is also sepia or brown conte, pencil or pen and ink.
